Sergio Franceschini a grandi en Allemagne. Influencé dans son enfance par une mère graphiste qui l’initie et l’éveille artistiquement, il garde de son père scientifique l’exigence de la précision. C’est donc nourri par une double culture et encouragé, que très tôt il s’intéresse aux artistes du Bauhaus dont il considère la simplicité des lignes épurées.
Après des études d’arts appliqués en Allemagne, il débute une carrière de designer automobile. Au Royal College of Art de Londres, il s’intéresse alors à des projets hybrides et pluridisciplinaires. Attaché à la transmission des pratiques manuelles de ce métier, il enseigne par la suite à Londres puis au Mexique.

Sergio Francheschini grew up in Germany. He was influenced from childhood by his mother – a graphic designer – who opened his eyes artistically, and from his scientist father he has retained a compulsion for precision. Nourished by these twin cultures he was drawn from the outset to the artists of the Bauhaus with a particular interest in the simplicity and clean lines for which the school is well known.
After studying applied arts in Germany, he began a career as an automotive designer. It was whilst at the Royal College of Art in London that he became interested in hybrid and multidisciplinary projects. Having an affinity for the transmission of the manual practices of this profession, he subsequently taught in London and in Mexico.

De son expérience dans l’industrie automobile, il préserve certaines techniques, un contrôle des surfaces, un goût des transitions entre les formats sphériques et coniques, qui lui permettent aujourd’hui de travailler ses formes sans outils mécaniques, à même les mains. La mise à l’écart de toutes traces manuelles dans le traitement du matériau ainsi que dans la conception formelle de ses œuvres confèrent à ses sculptures une dimension épurée et inaltérée.
From his experience in the automotive industry, he preserves certain techniques, a control of surfaces, a taste for transitions between spherical and conical formats, which today allow him to work his shapes without mechanical tools, with his own hands. The exclusion of all manual traces in the treatment of the material as well as in the formal design of his works gives his sculptures a refined and unaltered dimension.
